Soar high
on the wind, take in the beautiful countryside views, and experience the
true meaning of flight! The Hawke's Bay Gliding club invites you to come
and try this safe, exciting, and relatively cheap sport. Trial flights
are available with no previous experience required. With the help of our
qualified instructors, and with practice, you could be soaring for
hours. There is no other feeling
like circling in a thermal, with a graceful Harrier Hawk keeping you
company.
It's a birds life.
The club operates on
fine Sundays and public holidays from Hastings Aerodrome (Bridge Pa).
Other days can be arranged and we accept bookings for groups. See below
for contact details.
New
members are most welcome.

Club equipment
includes a Champion Citabria 150hp tow ship, a K13 2 seat trainer
and a lovely Grob 103 Twin Astir. These three aircraft serve as the
backbone of club flying, with numerous privately owned ships also
regularly in use.

24.02.2008
The New Zealand gliding community is currently mourning the passing
of two of its valued members. Both Rob Orr and Trevor Atkins have
sadly left us far too early.
Robbie Orr, a well respected
tow-pilot and personal friend from the Waipukurau club, will be
sadly missed by family and friends, myself included. My
personal condolences, and those of the Hawke's Bay Gliding club, go
to all who miss his friendly smile. He was a gentleman, and never
gave me less than encouragement.
Trevor Atkins was tragically killed
doing what he loved at the New Zealand National championships.
Trevor was a dedicated pilot who loved nothing more than to be at
the airfield, or helping out however he could, including helping to
run the Gliding New Zealand website. He will be a great
loss to the gliding community. All pilots, ground-crew, supporters
and peers will no doubt miss him dearly.
To both of these friends, we wish
blue skies, strong lift, and a peaceful journey.
You are in our minds, always.
