Sputnik 1 -
50th Anniversary.

The world of aviation changed forever on October 4, 1957
with the soviet launch of the first man-made satellite: Sputnik 1.
The space race had begun in the midst of cold war paranoia, but now 50
years later, has revolutionized our view of not only our home planet,
but the whole universe. Pictured above, a life-sized model is inspected by
Marvin (Mr Cat) Jones at the Hawke's Bay Holt Planetarium. Photo details:
Canon 350D, 1/10th second exposure with an Sigma 18-200mm DC lens, ISO
800 @ f-4.
