Modern Invasion.

An introduced Golden Bell Frog sits on foliage waiting its next meal. These and three other species were introduced to New Zealand over the past 150-200 years. Most of them came from Australia. All of them are modern frogs, compared to our native species... All of our native frogs are ancient, dating back around 135 million years. With that ancestry comes some old habits, like no croaking, no webbed toes and most oddly, no tadpoles. Four known species exist, all of which share these archaic characteristics. Just another example of the great evolutionary experiment of "Moa's Arc." Photo details: Canon 350D, ISO 1600, 1/100th second exposure with a Canon EF 50mm lens @ f-4.5.
