Swamp Stalker.

The white faced heron has only been known to breed in New Zealand since 1941, however, it is now our most common heron species. They spend much of their time lurking around water margins, silently stalking frogs, fish, worms and insects. This individual had a small flounder wriggling in its mouth just before taking flight to eat in private. Photo details: Canon 350D, ISO 800, 1/400th second exposure with a Canon EF 135mm lens @ f-5.
